Short Review : Kanojo, Okarishimasu
Kanojo, Okarishimasu is the one of the most popular anime in the summer season of 2020. The story revolves around Kazuya Kinoshita, a college student who his girlfriend broke up with him. To soothe the pain, he hired a rental girlfriend, Chizuru Mizuhara through an app. At first Kazuya was fallen head over heels for Mizuhara, but after their date, Kazuya read the reviews of other customers of Mizuhara. He rated her 1 star due to him felt of being toyed, thinking her smile and cute, caring personality were all just an act (which is plain stupid IMO, given that a normal person with logic knows that she's a motherfucking RENTAL girlfriend, and what he expects?). While Mizuhara gave him a verbal lashing on his hypocritic behaviour, Kazuya received a call that his grandmother collapsed. When they visited, Kazuya introduced Mizuhara as his actual girlfriend, forcing Mizuhara to play the part. It is revealed later on that Kazuya respects his grandmother, strives to fulfill her wish of getting a girlfriend, resulting in the never ending lies of his relationship with Mizuhara as the series progresses.
Most of the events in this season is plain stupid, illogical to a fault, the story tries to capture a realistic college student's love life but it failed to execute it nicely. At the first couple of episodes, the story was quite okay, as we see the terrible personality of Kazuya and Mami each being a dick and bitch respectively (one being deceitful and the other being manipulative), and in contrary, how good of a person Mizuhara is. Kazuya gradually falls for Mizuhara's charms and "decides" to become a better person.
The other fan favorite Ruka in the manga is then introduced, though being critical at first, pointing out Mizuhara being a rental. After some time, it is revealed that Ruka likes Kazuya due to he can make her heart beats fast (she had a disease, at first I thought it was something like Toki Doki (due to the ending song), but instead its just that she can't get high), she want to be his girlfriend, even its just a provisional one. And from there you thought Kazuya will get together with Ruka as Kazuya wanted to fulfill the wish of his grandmother, BUT NO. Ruka even stated the relationship between Mizuhara and Kazuya is unneeded now and I'm thoroughly agreed with her.
There's like tons of problem in this show, one being poor use of character, Sumi only came out like one episode this season, and Mami, a good plot driving character is left in the trash bin for like 7 episodes before pulling her back into the story. Next, Kazuya's personality of being a contradicting, hypocritic, deceitful and perverted person just triggers me. The fact of Kazuya making Ruka a disposable girlfriend is hate attracting. Also him backed down at the confession of the last episode is just idiotic. For now, he doesn't deserve the love of Mizuhara or any other girls. Comedic scenes are average for my taste, note that there's a handful of adult jokes in this. The philosophical parts for me is pretty meh.
Move on to the music, the opening Centimeter is nice and cool but overhyped for my taste, the ending is also good listen (the ending animation of hinting fapping is just hilarious when I first watch it). OSTs wise, I like the sad one played on episode 11, couldn't find the name but its was very good. Art and animation is pretty average for a rom-com anime. Character design however, I'm a simp for Mizuhara, so yeah.
Conclusion: (8.4/Average)
Mizuhara. Mizuhara. Mizuhara. That pretty summed up the only three things I liked in this anime.
